Africa 24 is a 24/7 television news network dedicated to news about Africa. It broadcasts in French to France but is also available in sub-Saharan Africa. In January 2013, the Arab Satellite Organization announced that it would make Africa 24 available to satellite subscribers in the Middle East and North Africa, intending to reach the region's immigrant audience from sub-Saharan Africa. Launched in 2009, Africa 24 is comparable to US-based news network CNN, Britain's BBC World News, France's France 24, pan-European Euronews, Germany's Deutsche Welle, and Arabic and English-language news broadcaster Al Jazeera. Africa 24 also broadcasts some news programs on its website. Some of the main programs broadcast by Africa24 include Journal Télévisé (JT), an evening round-up of the day's news; Talks, a program focused on politics and economics that includes debates on current topics; Sport, covering African sports news; and magazine, cultural affairs program. Africa 24 was founded by Constant Nemalet, President of Afrimédia SA based in Saint Cloud, France. Africa 24 is the majority of S.A. Afrimédia International is headquartered in Luxembourg. 20% of this company is owned by the Republic of Equatorial Guinea and, as of 2012, the Republic of Cameroon.
